DIEPPE, NB, May 22, 2012 /CNW/ - New investments in the arts, cultural and official-language sectors are helping boost the economy and create jobs and growth in New Brunswick. Support for 49 projects was announced today by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
The funding supports a wide range of organizations and projects across the province, including many local festivals and cultural organizations, that all share the common goal of providing residents of New Brunswick with rich cultural experiences. Groups and initiatives receiving support include the New Brunswick Foundation for the Arts, the Festival acadien de Caraquet, the Fredericton Playhouse, and Saint John's Imperial Theatre.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in New Brunswick's economic future," said Minister Moore. "By supporting these important projects, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy, boost tourism, and support our arts, culture, heritage, Aboriginal peoples, and official languages."
"For roughly a decade, the support received from the Government of Canada has played a vital role in allowing us to bring a diversity of programming to the Greater Saint John area, and we are appreciative of its continued support of our 2012-2013 season," said Peter D. Smith, General Manager of the Imperial Theatre. "This year, through the Endowment Incentives initiative, we are also very pleased that the Imperial Theatre Foundation has received a matching grant, which deposited in perpetuity with our endowment funds, will help ensure the long-term viability of the theatre".
The Government of Canada has provided total funding of $2,594,286 through the following programs of the Department of Canadian Heritage: the Aboriginal Languages Initiative, the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, the Official Languages Support Programs, the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, and the Canada Cultural Investment Fund.
