PETERBOROUGH, ON, Aug. 8, 2012 /CNW/ - An investment in Peterborough's arts and culture will attract tourism, stimulate the economy, and boost citizens' involvement in the community. Funding for the Peterborough Little Lake Musicfest was announced today by Dean Del Mastro, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and to the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Member of Parliament (Peterborough), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
Peterborough's Little Lake Musicfest is a summer music series that began on June 30 and will continue until August 25, 2012, in Del Crary Park in Peterborough. The 26th annual Musicfest is presenting a series of outdoor musical performances featuring rock, pop, country, and roots music. For the first time this year, it is also featuring an Aboriginal artist.
"This year marks the start of the five-year countdown to Canada's 150th birthday in 2017," said Minister Moore. "Our Government is proud to invest in projects that contribute to our collective identity and define who we are as Canadians. On the road to 2017, let us continue to celebrate all of the things that make Canada the united, prosperous, and free country we are today."
"This year also marks the 26th season of Peterborough's Little Lake Musicfest," said Mr. Del Mastro. "Residents and visitors alike can enjoy these live outdoor music concerts. This funding, provided by the Government of Canada, will enhance and support Musicfest, and it will continue to bring our community together, increase tourism, and bring a welcome boost to our economy."
"The Peterborough Little Lake Musicfest is grateful for the Department of Canadian Heritage's support in recognizing the cultural and economic importance of this event to the local community," said Emily Martin, General Manager, Peterborough Little Lake Musicfest. "With a lineup attracting thousands of guests to Del Crary Park each summer, the Department's assistance in presenting our 2012 lineup is greatly appreciated."
The Government of Canada has provided total funding of $20,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
