PARRY SOUND, ON, July 26, 2012 /CNW/ - An investment in arts and culture in Parry Sound will attract tourism and boost the local economy. Funding for the Festival of the Sound was announced today by the Honourable Tony Clement, Member of Parliament (Parry Sound-Muskoka), President of the Treasury Board and Minister for FedNor, on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
The Festival of the Sound is an annual summer festival of professional classical music, performed live on the shores of beautiful Georgian Bay in the Town of Parry Sound. The Festival will present first-class chamber music from Canada and abroad in its 33rd and 34th annual editions from July 18 to August 12, 2012, and July 19 to August 11, 2013.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in events like the Festival of the Sound that showcase our culture," said Minister Moore. "By supporting this project, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy and support arts, culture and heritage."
"The live concerts to take place at the Festival of the Sound will promote the talents of Canadian musicians from across the country," said Minister Clement. "This successful annual event will continue to bring our community together and support our town's economic growth and vitality."
"The Festival of the Sound is honoured to be supported by the Government of Canada to present its 33rd and 34th summer seasons of world-calibre chamber music," said Margaret Boyd, Executive Director of the Festival. "This support allows the Festival to bring outstanding Canadian and international classical musicians to the spectacular Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, right on the shores of Georgian Bay in Parry Sound, Ontario."
The Government of Canada has provided total funding of $240,000 ($120,000 per year for 2012-2013 and 2013-2014) through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
