SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON, May 23, 2012 /CNW/ - An investment in Northern Ontario will provide youth with access to arts and culture and promote the economic growth of the community. Support for the Kids Kaleidoscope Entertainment Series for the Performing Arts was announced today by Greg Rickford, Member of Parliament (Kenora), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
With this funding, Kids Kaleidoscope Entertainment Series for the Performing Arts (KKES) will present music, dance, and theatre performances for children and families in Sioux Lookout. Local artists will also lead workshops at schools in the community.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in local organizations like the Kids Kaleidoscope Entertainment Series for the Performing Arts," said Minister Moore. "By supporting the performing arts in Northern Ontario, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy and support our arts, culture, and heritage."
"Our Government is proud to support activities that promote artistic excellence," said Mr. Rickford. "The Kids Kaleidoscope Entertainment Series showcases the talents of local artists and strives to provide children with a chance to experience the performing arts."
"Kids Kaleidoscope is very appreciative of the government's continued support of our children's entertainment series," said Michelle Diston, Programmer of Kids Kaleidoscope Entertainment Series. "This has given our children the opportunity to experience performing arts in our remote community of Sioux Lookout."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $6,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
