IQALUIT, NU, July 31, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, and Minister for the Arctic Council today announced an investment to support the Northern tourism sector. This investment will not only focus on marketing the North as a premiere travel destination, but will also support capacity building in the sector.
Today's announcement will help the Pan North Consortium, consisting of Nunavut Tourism, NWT Tourism, and Tourism Yukon, to market the North in key Canadian urban centers and media. It will also support market ready products for tourism operators.
In addition, Nunavut Tourism is implementing a series of activities in support of Tunngasaiji, Nunavut's tourism strategy. This investment will allow the organization to undertake surveys to better understand the needs of visitors and operators in Nunavut. In turn, this information will be used to provide capacity building training for tourism operators and front line staff in communities. The funding will also be used to showcase Nunavut at trade shows and other promotional opportunities.
