KITCHENER, ON, March 13, 2013 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, Ms. Susan Truppe, Parliamentary Secretary for Status of Women and Member of Parliament for London North Centre, today delivered the keynote address at a Google Canada-sponsored event in support of women in technology.
"The Harper Government is committed to increasing women's leadership and participation in all sectors of the economy," said Minister Ambrose. "We are actively supporting women in non-traditional fields, such as the technology sector, engineering, science and the trades."
"We are working with our partners to ensure that Canadian women can put their skills and training to good use and succeed in all areas of our Canadian economy," said Ms. Truppe. "Our government knows that investing in women is not only the right thing to do but the smart thing to do. And we are acting on that knowledge."
The audience for the well-attended event at Google's Kitchener-Waterloo Research and Development Office was comprised of professional women from the technology industry as well as students from various technology programs throughout the region. Local women-in-technology organizations and student groups came together to celebrate women's contributions to the technology sector and to highlight particular women's contributions as leaders and motivators of change.
