Harper Government Salutes Women's Executive Network Leadership

CALGARY, Feb. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women today saluted the Women's Executive Network (WXN) on the occasion of their summit of women leaders today in Calgary.

"The Harper Government is focused on what matters most to Canadians - creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity," said Minister Ambrose. "That is why we are taking action to increase opportunities for women to take on top leadership positions; it makes good business sense for Canadian women and for Canada's economy."

"The Harper Government salutes the Women's Executive Network for its outstanding work inspiring a generation of women to succeed in Canada.

The Women's Executive Network summit is taking place today in Calgary. Founded in 1997, WXN is Canada's leading organization dedicated to the advancement and recognition of women in management, executive, professional and board roles. WXN is a Founding Member of the Canadian Board Diversity Council.

"In Economic Action Plan 2012, our government announced an advisory council of leaders from the private and public sectors to promote women's participation on corporate boards," Minister Ambrose added. "Our Government will continue to support projects that yield concrete results for women and girls in Canada while strengthening families, communities and the country."

The Harper Government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security.
