MONTRÉAL, April 27, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), today announced the Government of Canada's contribution to Judo Canada in support of the 2012 Pan American Judo Championship being held in Montréal from April 27 to 29, 2012.
"Our Government is pleased to provide support for the 2012 Pan American Judo Championship," said Minister of State Gosal. "The intense discipline, strength, and national pride of our judo athletes are nothing short of inspiring as they compete against some of the top athletes in the hemisphere. I wish all of our athletes vying for a spot on the road to London 2012 the very best of luck."
This event is an Olympic qualifying competition in both men's and women's senior judo.
The Government of Canada is the single largest contributor to sport in Canada and supports participation and excellence from the playground to the podium. A contribution of $150,000 was provided to Judo Canada through Sport Canada's Hosting Program. Sport Canada's Sport Support Program provided approximately $1.1 million to Judo Canada for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
