BANFF, AB, April 20, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), today announced Government of Canada funding to Active for Life for 2013-2014. The announcement was made at the International Physical Literacy Conference, which is being held in Banff from April 20 to 23.
"Our Government is proud to provide funding to B2ten to support its Active for Life initiative," said Minister of State Gosal. "This funding is part of our ongoing support for not-for-profit organizations that work hard to encourage parents, children, and young people to stay active. We recognize the positive impact of physical literacy and of physical activity on health, education and other sectors in society, as well as the tremendous benefits of sport for individuals and communities."
"We'd like to thank the Government of Canada for its commitment to Active for Life and to promoting physical literacy," said Richard Monette, Editor and Publisher of Active for Life. "With this support, we have been able to inspire thousands of Canadian moms and dads to teach their kids the fundamental movement skills that are essential to a healthy, active, and successful life."
Active for Life is the place where parents go to learn about activities for their children. It is a public education initiative to teach Canadian parents the critical importance of physical literacy, lifelong physical activity, and sport participation. Active for Life's platform is the online magazine www.activeforlife.ca. The initiative also makes use of social media channels, public service announcements on television and in magazines, and other means of communication. Active for Life is an initiative of B2ten, a Canadian charitable organization that promotes sport excellence and athlete development within Canada.
The Government of Canada is the largest single contributor to sport in Canada and supports participation and excellence from playground to podium. The Government of Canada, through Sport Canada's Sport Support Program, is providing almost $110,000 to B2ten for its Active for Life initiative.
