DIEPPE, NB, April 16, 2012 /CNW/ - Francophone parents in New Brunswick will be able to participate in activities that support the development of children and their families, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada. Robert Goguen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament (Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe), made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
The funding will enable the Association francophone des parents du Nouveau-Brunswick (AFPNB) to continue its work on family-centered policies, as well as parent involvement in early childhood education and the development of the Francophone identity. Through year-round activities and its work with parents and children, the AFPNB will continue to contribute to the vitality of Francophone and Acadian communities in the province.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in organizations like the AFPNB," said Minister Moore. "By supporting this organization in its activities, we are delivering on our commitment to strengthen our communities and support official languages and Canadian identity."
"Our Government is proud to support an organization that works for the development of New Brunswick's Francophone and Acadian communities," said Mr. Goguen. "By supporting parents, the AFPNB helps ensure that Francophone children reach their full potential in every aspect of their lives."
"For the Association, the financial support of the Government of Canada is crucial to its mission to support parents living in minority communities with a view to fostering the development of their children in their French language and culture," said Madeleine Vachon, President of the AFPNB. "The funding underscores the value the Government places on parents as the primary educators of the adults of tomorrow and on the projects delivered by the AFPNB."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $100,000 under the Community Life component of Canadian Heritage's Development of Official-Language Communities program. This program seeks to encourage the expansion of the country's Francophone and Anglophone minorities by enabling them to participate fully in all aspects of Canadian life.
