Harper Government Supports Recruitment and Retention of Women In Canada's Construction Industry Français
OAKVILLE, ON, Jan. 31, 2014 /CNW/ - Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Status of Women, today announced support to help women advance in non-traditional careers.
The Canadian Association of Women in Construction is receiving funding to advance more women into decision-making roles in construction and construction-related sectors in Ontario, Alberta and Newfoundland and Labrador. This project will see women collaborate with industry, government, and educational institutions to build and implement an action plan for increasing the retention and progression of women in management roles within the construction sector.
This project was selected through the Government of Canada's recent call for proposals entitled
Opening Doors: Economic Opportunities for Women.

- Status of Women Canada is providing $249,900 to the Canadian Association of Women in Construction for this 36 month project.
- Since 2007, the Harper Government has delivered more than $53 million through the Women's Program at Status of Women Canada for projects that promote women's economic security and prosperity.
- Through Status of Women Canada, federal funding of community-based projects has nearly doubled since 2006-2007, supporting more than 680 projects across Canada.
