Harper Government supports women-led businesses in British Columbia

VANCOUVER, Oct. 24, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, today announced Government of Canada support for women-led businesses in British Columbia.

The Women's Enterprise Centre of British Columbia is receiving funding for a project to support women entrepreneurs who want to become suppliers of goods or services to international events taking place in the province, specifically the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. The project involves engagement of government departments, the private sector, community organizations, business advocates for women, and women in the business community to establish a proactive, sustained system for identifying and pursuing inbound international and domestic procurement opportunities in a timely and effective manner.

• Status of Women Canada is providing $150,000 to The Women's Enterprise Centre of British Columbia for this 24-month project.
• The Government of Canada has provided over $146 million in funding through Status of Women Canada to support more than 720 projects since 2007. This includes more than $54 million invested in projects that promote women's economic security and prosperity.
• October is Women's History Month in Canada. The theme for 2014 is Canadian Business Women - A Growing Economic Force. From entrepreneurs to corporate leaders, women continue to play a pivotal role in building Canada's economic success.
