TORONTO, Jan. 7, 2013 /CNW/ - Jim Lamarche posted his 'Final Report Card on Media Arts Education in Canada' on January 1, 2013 after completing a survey of graduates from Canada's leading media arts schools, including Ryerson University's RTA Program, Fanshawe College's Music Industry Arts in London, Trebas Institute in Montreal/Toronto and Metalworks Institute in Mississauga.
Toronto's Harris Institute ranked at the top with an A+. "Harris gets top marks and all indicators now show it is in fact, the best school of its kind in Canada. Highly recommended", says Lamarche. "Graduates from Harris indicated the highest satisfaction rate and had the most positive reviews of all the schools reporting. It's truly unique - humble and yet a powerful little institution giving it the edge". Lamarche previously ranked Harris Institute's Arts Management Program (AMP), as "the best of its kind in Canada. I would recommend it hands down over any other school".
Ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th and the only other schools Lamarche recommends are London's Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology - OIART (A), Ryerson's RTA Program (A-) and Seneca College's School of Communication Arts (B+).
The 'Report Card' has had over 50,000 visitors from around the world since 2007 and was started "to shine a spotlight on the misconceptions surrounding media arts education and to expose some of the myths that schools project to boost enrollment. The blog remains the quintessential source of information on media arts education in Canada and provides 'unspun' information on how those interested in the field can proceed".
Lamarche has taught, guest lectured or participated at all the schools in his report from 1983 to 2009 and graduated from Fanshawe's 'Music Industry Arts' Program in 1977. He recorded two albums for A&M Records, was nominated for the 'Most Promising Male Vocalist' Juno Award, produced/engineered Bruce Cockburn, Blood Sweat & Tears, Australia's Split Enz, among others, recorded five independent CD's, was a Juno judge for 'Recording Engineer of the Year' from 1992 to 1998 and was a composer/producer with academy award winning director Chris Landreth on the Gemini Award winning 'Best Animation Short' Bingo.
