- Canadians encouraged to branch out and celebrate trees in their community as part of National Tree Day -

OTTAWA, Sept. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - We've all climbed in them, sat under them and ate fruit from them, but have we ever taken the time to truly appreciate them? With National Tree Day - Canada's official day to celebrate trees - on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, it's time to show our nation's trees just how much we care.

Made possible by Tree Canada and national sponsors - MAJESTA, Nissan and TELUS - National Tree Day encourages Canadians to take part in local activities to celebrate trees in their community. This year, hundreds of activities and events are taking place across the country, including tree plantings, forestry walks, green space beautification projects, and planting tutorials with the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association.

All Canadians are encouraged to visit nationaltreeday.ca to learn more about National Tree Day activities in their community or to register an event. Events can be anything from planting and maintaining trees to simply taking the time to talk about the importance of trees.

About National Tree Day
Created in 2011 through a private members motion in the House of Commons, National Tree Day now occurs on the Wednesday of National Forest Week each September. National Tree Day  encourages Canadians to get together to celebrate and appreciate the great benefits that trees provide, including clean air, wildlife habitat, reducing energy demand and connecting people with nature.
