MONTREAL, Sept. 25, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Regroupement provincial des comités des usagers (Provincial Regroupment of Patient Committees) (RPCU), the main voice of the users of Quebec's health and social services network, is surprised by the scope of the reform that is being proposed by Health Minister Barrette.
"The RPCU is delighted that the boards of directors will continue to be publicly accountable and that the citizens' voice will still be heard on those boards. The patient committees will continue to play their role, since they are being preserved", declared Pierre Blain, Director General of the RPCU.
The reorganization affects all the institutions and all the regions. In each health and social services region of Quebec, a new institution will be formed by amalgamating all the institutions of the region under the name "integrated health and social services centre". In Montreal, the institutions will be merged into five integrated centres.
Four supraregional institutions will be created: the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM), the Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine, the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and the Montreal Heart Institute.
