Recognizing exceptional contributions towards improving health in First Nations and Inuit communities
OTTAWA, May 8, 2017 /CNW/ - Nurses across Canada deliver an expansive range of services, including critical, often life-saving aid. From the public health perspective, they work hard to advance priorities such as management of anti-microbial resistance, infection prevention and control, border and travel health, and improved immunization coverage.
Today, Joël Lightbound, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health, on behalf the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Health, congratulated the three recipients of Health Canada's 2017 Awards of Excellence in Nursing.
The awards ceremony, held in Ottawa, marks the beginning of National Nursing Week and was an opportunity for the Government of Canada to express appreciation for the efforts of Joanne Ogden, TerriLynn Flynn, and Joseph Redhead as healthcare professionals and advocates of health promotion.
Each year, Health Canada recognizes three nurses for excellence in their work in First Nations and Inuit communities. Nurses are nominated for this award by their peers to recognize their contribution to the communities where they live and work. This year's winners are front-line nurses who have shown their commitment to excellence in nursing practice through sound judgement, professionalism, leadership and by valuing diversity.
