OTTAWA, Nov. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - After a year of heavy campaigning—including online and printed petitions, 3 letters sent by courier, 2 public service announcement videos on YouTube, various interviews on radio, television, blogs, newspapers and magazines, as well as speaking out in protests, trade shows and schools—Rachel Parent's tireless efforts have finally paid off.
The Honourable Rona Ambrose Minister of Health has agreed to a private meeting with 15-year-old Rachel Parent to discuss food safety and GMO labeling in Canada.
The main mission of Rachel's non-profit organization, Kids Right To Know, is to make GMO labeling mandatory in Canada. After more than three years of public education and outreach, Rachel is extremely excited and fully prepared to meet with Ms. Ambrose. "I'm hopeful that this meeting will be the first step towards accomplishing my mission of labeling GMOs in Canada."
In response to the Minister's statement regarding the lack of evidence to prove that GMOs are unsafe, Rachel is equally prepared to present a wealth of scientific research in this meeting.
As a follow up to the meeting, MP Murray Rankin will be hosting a press conference for Rachel Parent to discuss the outcome of the meeting at the following date and time:
Date: |
Thursday, November 6, 2014 |
Time: |
3:45 pm |
Location: |
Charles Lynch Press Conference Room |
Mr Rankin will be able to answer questions in either English or French and translate for Rachel who is not bilingual.
