Annual award celebrates leaders who inspire change in communities across Canada
TORONTO, March 25, 2014 /CNW/ - Health Nexus and 3M Canada announce the 2014 call for nominations for the 3M Health Leadership Award. The annual award honours leaders in Canada who have made a significant impact on the health and well-being of their community.
Launched in 2011, the 3M Health Leadership Award highlights the innovative leadership that drives healthy and resilient communities across Canada. The 3M Health Leadership Award provides a platform to celebrate community leaders, to share stories about community change, and to nurture leadership.
"The 3M Health Leadership Award is an opportunity to honour those community leaders who are often unrecognized and to highlight that health starts in our communities - where we live, learn, work and play," says Barb Willet, Executive Director of Health Nexus. "Through this recognition, we encourage Canadians to think differently about health and about leadership. Leadership isn't limited to a position or a role, and instead health is influenced by many factors, not only access to health care. "
Past recipients of the 3M Health Leadership Award include individuals working on the right to food, social enterprise, midwifery, community mobilization, law enforcement, mental health, active transportation, access to education, harm reduction, housing, arts and culture to name a few.
Leaders who are eligible for the award:
- make a difference in a Canadian community
- work to build a healthy community where people live, work, learn and play
- understand that health means more than access to health care
- demonstrate leadership that goes beyond a job
- inspire others to work together for change
"At 3M Canada, we're proud to partner with social innovators across the country, recognizing the often unrecognized work of community problem solvers," says Carla McFarlane, Communications and Community Relations Manager, 3M Canada. "It is an honour for us to celebrate the innovative leadership of community mobilizers across Canada through the 3M Health Leadership Award."
The deadline for nominations is Friday June 20, 2014. More information on the nomination process and previous recipients is available on the award website www.healthnexus.ca/leadershipaward.
