Re-imagining mental health care for women and children in our community
TORONTO, Sept. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - It's Back. It's Bigger. It's Better. North York General is proud to relaunch Heart of Fashion - one of our signature fundraisers - as a sophisticated fusion of food, fashion and live entertainment. Members of the city's fashion and social elite will gather in an elegant marquee in the Town Square at Shops at Don Mills on Saturday, November 2, 2013. Proceeds from the event will support the development of a state-of-the-art space for mental health care at our Hospital.
Presented by BMO, Heart of Fashion will feature an edgy yet elegant, sexy but sophisticated fashion show with Canadian designers and Shops at Don Mills retailers, hosted by Canadian fashion icon and Honorary Fashion Show Chair Jeanne Beker, as well as live entertainment by Karl Wolf and more. Inspired by Heart of Fashion's Culinary Chair, Rose Reisman, guests will also enjoy tempting gourmet food and specialty cocktails provided by the chefs at Shops at Don Mills' fine restaurants.
"We are so thrilled to bring back Heart of Fashion," says Terry Pursell, President & CEO, North York General Foundation. "We look forward to hosting an unforgettable evening in support of mental health care, one of the most critical needs of our Hospital and community."
Heart of Fashion guests will have the opportunity to bid on tickets to the internationally televised Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, where the winner will mingle with celebrities, supermodels and socialites. Guests will also have the chance to win a unique weekend Porsche experience generously donated by Downtown Porsche.
Tickets for Heart of Fashion are $250 and are available for purchase online at HeartofFashion.ca or by contacting North York General Foundation at 416-756-6851.
Re-Imagining Mental Health Care at North York General
Proceeds from Heart of Fashion will support North York General's transformation of a historic property that is located near the Hospital's main site. Phillips House, a heritage estate owned by the Hospital, will be preserved while becoming a beautiful, welcoming facility for women's and children's outpatient mental health care, unlike any other in Canada. Heart of Fashion will profile the importance of investing in a warm, non-clinical space for mental health care. Details are available at HeartofFashion.ca/the-cause.
"One in 5 Canadians will experience a mental illness," says Dr. Thomas Ungar, Chief & Medical Director of Psychiatry, North York General. "In Canada, 86% of all hospitalizations for mental illness occur at community hospitals like North York General. As the demand grows for community-based mental health services, we will be able to respond, thanks to the funds raised through Heart of Fashion and private donor support."
North York General is deeply grateful to BMO Financial Group for their support as the Presenting Sponsor of Heart of Fashion. "BMO is committed to helping improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work," said Nada Ristich, Director, Corporate Donations. "We are proud to enable North York General to take an important step toward making a world of difference in the lives of women who receive care for mental health issues."
North York General would like to offer special thanks to all of our donors and event sponsors who have made Heart of Fashion possible. We also acknowledge and thank the Heart of Fashion Advisory Council - including Holly Miklas, Chair; Jeanne Beker, Honorary Fashion Show Chair; and Rose Reisman, Culinary Chair - for their commitment and leadership.
