Heather Zordel and Ellen Bessner Available for Comment as Ministers of Finance of BC, Ontario and Canada Agree to Establish a Cooperative Capital Markets Regulator
TORONTO, Sept. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Cassels Brock partners Heather Zordel and Ellen Bessner are available for comment on today's announcement that the Ministers of Finance of British Columbia, Ontario and Canada agreed to establish a cooperative capital markets regulatory system and invite all provinces and territories to participate in the proposed system.
Heather Zordel is an expert on this topic, having been appointed by the Federal Minister of Finance to the Expert Panel on Securities Regulation which was tasked with providing advice on the best way forward to improve securities regulation in Canada. The Expert Panel tabled a report and a model in federal securities act in January 2009, with recommendations the Canadian government pursued through the transition office it established to create a Canadian Securities Regulator.
