GATINEAU, QC, Oct. 25, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Museum of Civilization is embarking on a cross-Canada tour seeking input from Canadians on what they would like from their Canadian Museum of History.
As announced on October 16, 2012 by the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honourable James Moore, the Canadian Museum of Civilization will become the Canadian Museum of History, a museum that will present the national history of Canada and its people. The transition will take place gradually over the next several years to be completed in time for Canada's 150th anniversary in 2017.
"The new Canadian Museum of History will focus on the major themes, seminal events, and people that have shaped our national story," said Mark O'Neill, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation. "We are inviting all Canadians, wherever they may live, to participate in this discussion."
Over the coming weeks, the Museum will visit the following cities: St. John's, Newfoundland; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Fredericton, New Brunswick; Montréal and Gatineau, Québec; Toronto, Ontario; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Edmonton, Alberta and Vancouver, British Columbia. Members of the public will be invited to join us for roundtable sessions or to visit our interactive kiosks at public venues and events in these cities.
Starting now and throughout the coming months, Canadians can contribute to the Canadian Museum of History by visiting www.civilization.ca/myhistorymuseum/ where they can complete a survey and participate in interactive activities that allow them to choose the people, stories and objects they would like to see in their history museum, and to tell us how to remain engaged with them.
We will also consult in the coming weeks with historians, researchers, and museologists from across the country to discuss the Museum's research priorities moving forward. These sessions will take place in partner museums in every region of the country.
Don't miss your chance to have your say and to make history!
