You can bring home a new furry best friend at most PetSmart stores May 15-17
TORONTO, May 6, 2015 /CNW/ - With boundless energy, Teddy leaps around the animal shelter chasing a bright red piece of string. But his new toy can't compete for long with the loving cuddles of a volunteer who coaxes him to purr affectionately.
More than 103,000 cats like Teddy enter Canadian shelters each year – more than twice the number of dogs – according to the Canadian Federation of Human Societies. One reason for this is the spring "kitten season."
"Kitten season is the time of year when cats give birth to unplanned litters, inundating animal shelters across the country," says Bill McDonald of PetSmart Charities of Canada. "Shelters struggle to keep up with the influx of homeless kittens and are looking for a solution."
You can help solve pet homelessness by meeting the loveable cats and dogs available at PetSmart Charities of Canada National Adoption Weekend May 15-17 at your local PetSmart® store. These weekends found homes for more than 3,000 homeless pets across Canada in 2014."
"PetSmart stores donate space to over 100 animal welfare groups to encourage adoptions and help solve our nation's pet overpopulation crisis," said Rob Smith, regional director of PetSmart Canada. "The pets find lifelong, loving homes and our customers get to meet them in a friendly retail environment."
To help adoptable pets make good first impressions, PetSmart is grooming select pets from Toronto Animal Services at the Etobicoke PetSmart store. See their adorable "before and after" photos by following PetSmart on Twitter.
