TORONTO, April 9 /CNW/ - HGTV Canada is raising the roof after its April 2nd record-breaking day, achieving its highest audience to date with an AMA of 152,000 (2+)*. This day also marked its strongest day for this broadcast year against the younger A18-49 demo, garnering an impressive 82,000 AMA. HGTV continues to broaden its appeal, achieving impressive growth of 32% over last winter among A18-49, and is currently the No. 7 highest ranked specialty channel in Canada, up over its No. 9 ranking in fall 2009 (A18-49).
Results from a recent Specialty Engagement Study by SRG, examining the top 30 English Canada specialty channels, confirm HGTV's popularity among Canadian viewers. HGTV ranked as the number one "channel Canadians make a point to watch" (W18-54). It ranked number two as "one of Canadian viewers' favourite channels" and those who watch are very inspired to buy things and are more likely to purchase products advertised on this channel (W18-54). Food Network, another Canwest Specialty channel, ranked as Canada's number one channel for both being "one of their favourite channels" and "a channel that inspires them to buy things" (W18-54).(xx)
April 2nd's power-packed scheduled was anchored by a marathon of Canadian original series House of Bryan airing from 11:30am ET to 6pm ET. Monday's audience numbers exceeded HGTV's previously held highest daily audience record of 72,000 among A18-49 and 145,000 among 2+ which included a Holmes Inspection marathon that aired on January 3, 2010.
One of HGTV's most talked about new series, House of Bryan, features contractor Bryan Baeumler as he builds the house of his dreams to accommodate his wife's dreams of expanding their family.
