High-tech donation helps to bridge digital divide
Electronic Recycling Association donates 50 computers to United Way Toronto
CALGARY, July 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Bojan Paduh, Founder and President of the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), announced today that ERA has donated 50 computers to United Way Toronto.
"We are thrilled to help United Way," said Paduh. "Our overall goal is to support organizations like United Way by providing access to technology," he added. "This enables United Way to provide individuals who likely would not have access to a computer with the ability to search and apply for a job, complete school work or even reconnect with family members for support."
The donated computers will be used to support vital programs and services at eight community agencies across Toronto. Programs include mentorship and skills development for young children, support for single parents, and assistance to newcomers.
"A big thank you to ERA for their generous donation," said Susan McIsaac, President and CEO, United Way Toronto. "It's really inspiring to see companies like ERA giving back to the community to make a real difference in the lives of people and families across our city," she added. "This valuable gift will strengthen the capacity of our community partners in delivering a wide range of local programs and services."
Community agencies in receipt of computers include Albion Neighbourhood Services, Birchmount Bluff Neighbourhood Centre, Neighbourhood Link Support Services, Seeds of Hope Foundation, Syme-Woolner Neighbourhood and Family Centre, University Settlement and Woodgreen Red Door Family Shelter.
As a not-for-profit organization with deep community roots, it is the ERA's "reuse" focus and donation activities that set the organization apart from others in this sector. ERA believes that "reuse" wherever possible is the most ecological approach to this growing stream, and an excellent way to compel real community good will at the same time.
