Hinterland Who's Who at Canada Blooms
PART OF THE SPECIAL HWW 50TH ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITIES
OTTAWA, March 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Most Canadians who had television in the 1960s or 1970s will remember it — the haunting strains of a lone flute, the trademark theme of Hinterland Who's Who (HWW). It all started in 1963, with black-and-white vignettes about the loon, the moose, the gannet and the beaver. Today, HWW continues to bring Canada's amazing wildlife directly into people's homes. The new public-service announcements carry on the classic theme of the original vignettes but also address the need to conserve and protect native species and their habitat. HWW also maintains a robust website (HWW.ca), full of information about wildlife and how the public can help it. This includes creating habitat for native species through gardening.
"HWW has inspired thousands of Canadians to connect with wildlife in so many different ways over five decades." says Wade Luzny, CEO and Executive Vice-President of the Canadian Wildlife Federation. "Getting outside in your garden and enjoying wildlife in your own backyard is a great first step to appreciating and learning more about the wild species that surround us. At Canada Blooms, HWW will create a direct link between gardeners and urban wildlife."
HWW will be present at Canada Blooms on Saturday, March 16th, and Sunday, March 17th, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Canadian Wildlife Federation Natural Playground, designed and built by Bienenstock. There will be special presentations featuring our English-speaking host, Jody Gienow, and several live animal guests, at 10:00 AM and 12:00, 2:00 and 4:00 PM. The Canada Blooms public will also have a chance to participate in HWW's 50th anniversary by paying tribute to this iconic programme. People will be asked to film themselves singing the HWW tune or wishing HWW a happy anniversary. These videos will be featured on our 50th Anniversary Tributes Board, on http://www.hww.ca/en/about-us/50th/, in in an effort to join all Canadians together.
There are many initiatives planned for 2013 to celebrate HWW's 50th Anniversary. Stay tuned on HWW.ca! With the public's participation, the Hinterland Who's Who Anniversary is sure to be a great success!
