Employees Take Part in Ford City Neighbourhood Renewal Initiative
WINDSOR, ON, June 2, 2016 /CNW/ - Hiram Walker & Sons employees will step outside the office and production plant today, in a collaborative effort to give back to their local community. Armed with paint brushes, shovels and gardening gloves, they will be spending the day in Ford City, helping to revitalize this once vibrant neighbourhood in Windsor, Ontario.
These activities are part of the sixth annual Responsib'All Day, which sees Hiram Walker & Sons employees act as frontline ambassadors for the organization's CSR commitments: promoting responsible drinking, empowering employees, protecting our planet and developing our communities. Hiram Walker & Sons employs over 300 talented and passionate individuals, and produces some of Canada's favourite brands including J.P. Wiser's, Lot No. 40, Pike Creek, Gooderham & Worts and Royal Reserve Canadian whiskies, Polar Ice vodka, Malibu and Lamb's rums, and McGuinness and Criollo liqueurs.
"I'm so proud of our fantastic Hiram Walker & Sons team – their hard work today is making a big impact in revitalizing this historic neighbourhood," says Jim Stanski, VP Operations. "More than 150 years ago, Hiram Walker himself was building the very community where we now live and work – and today we are continuing his vision. We challenge other local organizations to join us in giving back to communities in Windsor, making this city a better place for years to come."
The team at Hiram Walker & Sons is stopping business for the day and joining the 18,500 global employees of its parent company, Pernod Ricard, in the Group's objective of spreading "conviviality" around the world. Under Pernod Ricard's motto of "créateurs de convivialité", employees in 80 countries will collectively provide local communities with places for meeting, talking and sharing with each other.
"Hiram Walker & Sons has a rich history in the City of Windsor – a history of which we are very proud," says Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. "I want to thank the company for its continuing commitment to Windsor, and also thank all the employees who are working tirelessly today as part of the global Responsib'ALL Day. You are wonderful ambassadors – not only for Hiram Walker & Sons, but for the City of Windsor as well."
Ford City was once a booming and thriving community at the turn of the century, but today, the area bears many vacant buildings and empty lots. In partnership with Ford City Neighbourhood Renewal and the United Way, the employees of Hiram Walker & Sons will work together on a number of impactful painting, cleaning, planting and building projects. The objective is to breathe new life into this area of the community, so it will become a welcoming place for the public to enjoy.
"The team from Hiram Walker & Sons has been a part of the United Way family for decades. Their support of our community is far-reaching, and they continue to be a pillar in our community in so many ways," says Lorraine Goddard, CEO, Windsor-Essex United Way. "We are even more pleased to recognize their support of the Ford City neighbourhood this year through their Responsib'All Day initiative. Together, they are giving back to the community and beautifying a local neighbourhood – and that is the true spirit of this very generous company."
Hiram Walker & Sons is marking Responsib'All Day together with its Canadian marketing and distribution affiliate Corby Spirit and Wine, and similar community-focused events will be taking place in 11 other cities from coast to coast: Halifax, Saint John, Charlottetown, St. John's, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. Employees across the country will take part in initiatives to help improve green spaces, community centres, and public parks in their region.
