Holcim Canada celebrates 40th annual Earth Day
TORONTO, April 23 /CNW/ - In celebration of Earth Day, Holcim Canada undertook various activities from planting trees and grounds clean-up, to creating awareness amongst employees to be more environmentally conscious.
Dufferin Aggregates, a division of Holcim Canada planted 21,000 native trees and shrubs on its properties across Southern Ontario. Tree planting activities took place in Acton, Carden, Erin, Flamboro and Milton, among others locations. Over 1,000 volunteers, including Girl Guides, Scouts Canada and local community members, participated in the celebrations. Employees at the Flamboro quarry even extended their good work by cleaning adjacent roads. To date, Dufferin Aggregates has planted over 160,000 trees in the region. Holcim employees from our Mississauga Cement Plant and Dufferin Concrete divisions participated in cleaning-up the grounds around their respective sites in Ontario.
In Quebec, Holcim Canada and Demix employees were made aware of how changing small habits like using a reusable water bottle, biking or taking public transportation to work, using less resources, and eating local, can make a big difference. The company organized drop-off locations at their main offices for employees to dispose of their toxic house hold waste and held a composting learning session delivered by a local expert.
"Holcim Canada is committed to preservation of the natural resources for future generations and is always working to leaving a smaller environmental footprint," said Bill Galloway, Sr. Vice President, Government Affairs, Holcim Canada Inc. He further added that "Earth day provides an excellent platform for our employees to work with local communities, connect with nature and contribute to making a difference."
