Holcim Canada's Joliette Cement Plant adopts the St-Pierre stream as part of
CARA's lake and stream protection and enhancement project in Lanaudière
JOLIETTE, QC, Nov. 24 /CNW/ - In cooperation with Corporation d'aménagement de la rivière l'Assomption (CARA), Holcim (Canada) Inc. is pleased to announce it has "adopted" the St-Pierre stream, a tributary of the Assomption River that extends 39 kilometers across four municipalities (St-Pierre, Saint-Paul, St-Charles Borromée and Joliette). This adoption is part of a four-year collective initiative to improve water quality in the Lanaudière region for which Holcim Canada will provide CARA with $20,000 in funding.
"We are very pleased to take part in this project," said Isabelle Beaudoin, Director of Occupational Health and Safety, Environment, and Alternative Fuels and Raw Materials at the Joliette Cement Plant. "The plant is committed to protecting the environment and the quality of life of Joliette and Lanaudière region residents. We are convinced that this initiative will be highly beneficial for the community."
This Lanaudière lake and river protection and enhancement project is itself part of an overall initiative to implement a water master plan for the Assomption basin. In the next four years, with Holcim Canada's support, CARA will gather knowledge about the basin, evaluate the land, identify issues and priorities, and ultimately develop an action plan for water management.
The Joliette plant has worked with CARA since 1992 and supported a number of its projects over the years, including Festi-Glace and Festival de la pêche as well as construction of the Assomption River footbridge and pavilion. The cement plant is proud to support initiatives that promote sustainable development and environmental protection.
