MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 5, 2015 /CNW/ - Canadians are frustrated with what they see as an overly commercial holiday season, according to a recent poll, and hope to do more this season to focus on the aspects of the holidays that matter most.
The annual Holiday trend poll, conducted by Ipsos Reid on behalf of the World Vision Gift Catalogue, shows a strong sentiment towards helping others. When asked about their plans this Christmas, 3 in 4 respondents said they would donate to charity (up from 70% in 2014) and almost half indicated they would spend time volunteering for a charitable organization.
Shying away from the more materialistic aspects of the season, 9 in 10 Canadians feel Christmas has become too commercial and only 9% of Canadians describe gift giving as key to the spirit of the holidays.
Quotes:
"Canadians say they are fed up with the commercialization and glitz of the holidays. Helping others, including through charity, is an important factor in what they are hoping to accomplish this Christmas. To summarize what we are seeing, the holiday outlook is all about generosity and quality time with loved ones."
