The Beatles classic 1967 Feature Film in HD and commercial-free on Oct.19 at 9pm ET
TORONTO, Oct. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Hollywood Suite viewers will be treated to the Canadian TV premiere of The Beatles' classic 1967 feature film the Magical Mystery Tour, a dreamlike story of a coach day trip to the seaside on Friday, October 19 at 9pm ET on Sony Movie Channel.
Only Hollywood Suite viewers can tune in to watch the film The Beatles starred in, wrote, and directed in September 1967, in the wake of the extraordinary impact of their Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. "Paul said, ' Look, I've got this idea,' and we said 'Great!' and all he had was this circle and a little dot on the top - that's where we started," explained Ringo. "It wasn't the kind of thing where you could say, 'Ladies and gentlemen, what you are about to see is the product of our imaginations and believe me, at this point they are quite vivid," said Paul. The feature film follows a loose narrative and showcased six new songs: "Magical Mystery Tour," "The Fool On The Hill," "I Am The Walrus," "Flying," "Blue Jay Way," and "Your Mother Should Know."
First broadcast by BBC1 to public outcry in the UK over Christmas 1967, Magical Mystery Tour immediately attracted widespread controversy as middle England and the establishment's TV critics erupted with indignation. "How dare they?" they cried, "They're not film directors! Who do they think they are?" they howled. The four lovable moptops of A Hard Days Night and Help! were no longer conforming to the image so beloved by the media.
Partly as an upshot to this reaction, the film never had a US broadcast and very limited distribution in the rest of the world until now. In association with EMI Music Canada and the October 9th DVD and Blu-Ray release of the fully restored classic feature film, Hollywood Suite is airing Magical Mystery Tour on October 19th at 9pm ET, preceded by the BBC documentary Arena: Magical Mystery Tour Revisited about the making of the feature film at 8pm ET on Sony Movie Channel. The documentary incorporates new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, members of the cast and crew and is packed with unseen footage from the film. Additionally, Arena features contributions from filmmakers Martin Scorcese, Peter Fonda and Terry Gilliam.
Now for the first time the film has been fully restored and along with a remixed soundtrack Magical Mystery Tour emerges from out of the shadows and onto the screen.
