Home Appliance Industry Applauds Publication of Canada's New Energy Efficiency Regulations
Home Appliance Manufacturers and Consumers Benefit from Publication of Amendment 13
OTTAWA, Jan. 5, 2017 /CNW/ -- AHAM applauds the publication of the new Energy Efficiency Regulations, 2016 – Amendment 13, by Natural Resources Canada that will increase energy performance for many household appliances, including refrigerators and freezers, clothes washers and dryers, dishwashers and room air conditioners. Amendment 13 to the Energy Efficiency Regulations, 2016 will align the Canadian appliance regulations with the United States energy conservation standards by 2020. AHAM has been urging for the finalization of Amendment 13 for several years to create consistency for manufacturers of home appliances that market products in both the Canada and the United States.
Canadian residents will save about $1.8 billion in energy costs by 2030 and result in the reduction of about 0.7 megatonnes of greenhouse gas emissions through the publication of Amendment 13.
"Regulatory cooperation between the United States and Canada is a top priority for AHAM members. It not only provides manufacturers with the ability to plan but it also gives Canadian consumers access to the most efficient appliances available today," stated Bruce Rebel, Vice President and General Manager of AHAM Canada.
AHAM Canada worked with the Canada–United States Regulatory Cooperation Council and Natural Resources Canada over the past several years urging them to expedite Amendment 13 and increase cooperation between the countries.
