Hon. Ted Morton Appointed as Senior Fellow, Energy and Environment at the Manning Foundation for Democratic Education
CALGARY, Sept. 11, 2013 /CNW/ - Preston Manning, President of the Manning Foundation for Democratic Education, is pleased to announce the appointment of Hon. Ted Morton as Senior Fellow, Energy and Environment. Ted Morton was the MLA for Foothills-Rocky View from 2004-2112, and a candidate for Party Leader in 2006 and 2011. He served as Minister of Sustainable Resource Development, Finance and Energy for the PC Government of Alberta. In his role as Senior Fellow, Morton will lead research on how to wisely navigate the energy/environment interface. This research will help to inform the debate in Alberta and beyond about the proper role of markets and regulation in the development of natural resources, including ways and means of maximizing wealth creation while also ensuring the principled management of resources to reduce environmental impact and ensure long-term sustainability.
Commenting on the appointment, Preston Manning noted, "Ted's background and experience make him ideally suited to leading our energy and environment research. Ted brings intellectual rigour that comes from a career in academia and combines that with the practical knowledge of resource policy that comes from his leadership of several government ministries related to resources and fiscal management. Of course, Ted is also widely known and respected for his principled approach to policy - an approach that is entirely consistent with the principles of the Manning Foundation. We welcome Ted and look forward to years of practical and fruitful collaboration on issues that matter deeply to Albertans and all Canadians."
"I look forward to building on my experience with the energy-environment interface to help Alberta and Canada build our brand as the world's most reliable, competitive and responsible energy producer. I am also excited to reconnect with Preston Manning—the man who first sparked my interest in real world politics—in advancing the democratic education mission of the Manning Foundation," concluded Ted Morton today.
