All-time Record Sales Achieved By Honda CR-V
TORONTO, April 1 /CNW/ - Combined March sales of 14,389 units by the Honda and Acura divisions represented a 15% increase over last year. The Honda Automobile Division reported March sales of 12,565 units, up 11% from last year, led by all-time record sales of Honda CR-V with 3,427 units. The Acura Division reported March sales of 1,824 units, up 51% from last year, with record monthly sales for Acura RDX and the Canadian-made Acura MDX.
"We are pleased to see the continuing improvement in consumer confidence which is resulting in increasing vehicle sales in the Canadian market," said Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president of Honda Canada Inc., "and we are cautiously optimistic for this upward trend to continue throughout the coming year. This anticipated growth is part of the rationale for our announcement to resume second-shift production early next year at Plant 2 of our assembly facility in Alliston, Ontario, which will result in more than 400 new positions. We also are encouraged to see strong Civic sales this month, restoring Civic to the number one position for all passenger car sales in Canada."
For the first quarter of 2010, 93% of all Honda and Acura vehicles sold in Canada were made in North America - up from 91% for the same period in 2009.
Honda Canada Inc. has sold more than 3,300,000 Honda and Acura passenger cars and light-duty trucks in Canada over the past 37 years. A record high 91 per cent of the Honda and Acura vehicles sold in Canada in 2009 were produced at the company's assembly plants in North America, up nearly 3 per cent from 2008.
