- Honda CR-V, Civic and Accord continued to dominate retail sales in their segments
- RDX helps boost October Acura sales to 7% from same period last year
- Fit and HR-V sales see sharp decline due to flooding at Celaya, Mexico plant
MARKHAM, ON, Nov. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - Honda Canada Inc. today reported October sales of 16,376 Honda and Acura vehicles, down 7 percent from the previous year. The Honda Automobile Division reported October sales of 14,301 units sold, down 8.7 percent from the previous year. Acura Division reported October sales of 2,075 units, up 6.9 percent versus last year.
"A phenomenal October performance from the Accord ensured its retail sales leadership in its segment along with the Civic and CR-V," said Jean Marc Leclerc, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Honda Canada Inc.
Due to the overflow of a river near Honda's auto plant in Celaya, Mexico, all auto and component production was suspended beginning June 28 including Fit and HR-V models built for the Canadian market. Production at the plant resumed production on October 23 and inventory is expected to arrive in early 2019.
"We are now feeling the inventory effects of the flooding that occurred in our Celaya, Mexico plant earlier this summer, which negatively impacted Fit and HR-V sales in October by almost 1,300 units," added Leclerc.
"Since arriving at dealerships, the Acura RDX has attracted new customers to the brand, four consecutive record selling months, it's near the top of its segment and helped contribute to a seven percent increase in sales from the same period last year," said Emile Korkor, Senior Manager and Brand Lead, Acura Canada. "We're excited to build off the strong momentum from the summer into the coming months, as we get set to introduce the refreshed 2019 Acura ILX, signifying the complete design refresh of our lineup."
