HONDA CANADA REPORTS OCTOBER SALES RESULTS
Honda CR-V Breaks All-Time Annual Sales Record
TORONTO, Nov. 2 /CNW/ - Combined October sales of 12,856 units by the Honda and Acura divisions represented a 14% increase over last year's sales. The Honda Automobile Division reported October sales of 11,134 units, up 21% from last year and its best October sales results over the past five years. Honda's October sales were led by a 27% increase in Honda truck sales. Honda CR-V's year-to-date sales of 22,136 have exceeded the previous best-ever yearly sales of 21,245. The Acura Division reported October sales of 1,722 units, a 17% decrease over last year.
"Canadians are responding to the excellent values throughout our Honda and Acura lineup, especially our new high-value Civic SE and Accord SE models," said Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president of Honda Canada Inc. "For Acura we saw a 144 per cent increase for the popular TSX luxury sports sedan. Our all-new Honda Odyssey minivan, which went on sale October 22, is showing strong sales momentum with monthly sales up 99 per cent, while the CR-V - which was up 21% in October - has already broken its all-time annual sales record with two months of sales still to go."
For October, 94% of all Honda and Acura vehicles sold in Canada were built in North America, including 54% of total units sold coming from the two Honda of Canada Mfg. assembly plants in Alliston, ON, which will celebrate its 25th year of operations in Canada next November.
Honda Canada Inc. has sold more than 3,375,000 Honda and Acura passenger cars and light-duty trucks in Canada over the past 37 years. A record high 91 per cent of the Honda and Acura vehicles sold in Canada in 2009 were produced at the company's assembly plants in North America, up nearly 3 per cent from 2008.
