- 2019 Acura RDX recorded best ever monthly sales for third consecutive month
- Honda CR-V retains its lead as best-selling SUV
- Accord sees 26% increase from the same period last year
- Fit, HR-V and Insight sales decline due to flooding at Celaya, Mexico plant
MARKHAM, ON, Oct. 3, 2018 /CNW/ - Honda Canada Inc. today reported September sales of 17,303 Honda and Acura vehicles, down 4.8 percent from the previous year. The Honda Automobile Division reported September sales of 15,450 units sold, down 4.3 percent from the previous year. Acura Division reported September sales of 1,853 units, down 9.1 percent versus last year.
"Impressive Accord sales offset the impact of reduced HR-V, Fit and Insight inventory, caused by significant flooding and production suspension at Honda's auto plant in Celaya, Mexico, resulting in relatively consistent year-to-date sales overall," said Jean Marc Leclerc, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Honda Canada Inc. "While production is on track to fully resume in November, and early interest in the refreshed 2019 HR-V has been promising, we'll continue to feel the effects of the flooding on our inventory levels throughout the duration of the year."
"The success story of the all-new Acura RDX continued throughout September as it recorded its third consecutive month of record sales," said Emile Korkor, Senior Manager and Brand Leader, Acura Canada. "With the RDX outperforming expectations, great feedback on the new MDX A-Spec variant and the arrival of the refreshed ILX in the coming months, we're positioned well for a successful final quarter of the year."
In September, Honda of Canada Mfg. commemorated two major milestones, celebrating 20 years of production at its Plant 2 frame plant and 10 years of production at its Engine Plant. Opened in 1998, HCM's Plant 2 provided Honda the opportunity to add important new nameplates to its product offering including its first entries into the minivan (Odyssey), SUV (MDX, Pilot) and light truck (Ridgeline) segments. In 2008, the addition of an engine plant boosted productivity and flexibility. As the first Japanese automaker to build a manufacturing plant in Canada in 1986, these key investments in additional plants have allowed HCM to grow and innovate over its 32-year manufacturing history in Canada.
