LONGUEUIL, QC, Aug. 3, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) and the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) would like to inform road users there will be work carried out on the Honoré Mercier Bridge over the next few days to enable the opening of the new Monette Bridge.
Over the past several months, major work has been carried out to completely reconstruct the Monette Bridge, which makes it possible to access the Honoré Mercier Bridge from Montreal (LaSalle).
As part of this reconstruction work, a temporary bridge was created to maintain regular traffic flow on the bridge towards the South Shore while isolating the Monette Bridge, which was completely rebuilt.
Night work during the week
Work will first be carried out at night, with a single lane open on the bridge from 10 p.m. on Monday, August 6 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7. During this period, the off-ramp towards Châteauguay from the Honoré Mercier Bridge (Ramp 3) will be completely closed to traffic. A detour will be set up using Ramp 2, the off-ramp towards La Prairie, then Route 132 towards Châteauguay.
Major weekend work
In order to complete the work and open the new bridge, traffic will once again be limited to a single lane per direction on the bridge from Friday, August 10, at 2 p.m. to Monday, August 13, at 5 a.m.
During this period (Monday night and Weekend), the bridge's access ramp from Airlie Street at La Salle towards the South Shore will also be closed.
It is very important to note that the afternoon rush hour on Friday, August 10 will be difficult and road users are encouraged to use the Champlain Bridge at that time. By starting the work at 2 p.m., road users who finish at noon will be able to access the South Shore more easily.
Note that this work may be postponed depending on weather conditions.
Additionally, please note there is no major work expected for the coming weekend (August 4 and 5) on both the federal and provincial sections of the Honoré Mercier Bridge.
