LONGUEUIL, QC, July 15, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) wish to inform road users that the complete closure scheduled on Honoré-Mercier Bridge for the night of July 19 to July 20 will be avoided.
The closure was necessary in order to proceed with concreting operations in the crossover section between both directions of the bridge and avoid the vibrations caused by traffic while the concrete cures.
This closure that initially affected all road users was reviewed and a new procedure was proposed in order to limit the vibrations due to traffic flow. Construction work will occur early Friday morning, when trucks are already prohibited from travelling on the bridge towards Montreal. Moreover, patrols will be on location in order to enforce a lower speed limit and reduce the vibrations from traffic.
One lane will be kept open in each direction on the Bridge during the operation like usual during the actual seven weeks of work.
This new procedure should not cause any major impact on traffic and satisfies the demands of the partners Comité de suivi du pont Mercier, so as to limit the impact on traffic as much as possible.
PJCCI also wishes to remind users that major work is currently underway on the federal section of the Honoré Mercier Bridge and will continue, day and night, for the next seven weeks, from June 20 to August 11, 2014, to replace a section of the deck and replace the expansion joints, install new bearings and proceed with paving and marking work.
Information on all traffic barriers, proposed detours and traffic specifications are available at www.mercierbridge.ca.
