Honoré Mercier Bridge - Complete closure of South Shore-bound lanes on Saturday, December 21 Français
LONGUEUIL, QC, Dec. 17, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to announce the complete closure of the South Shore-bound lanes of the Honoré Mercier Bridge on Saturday, December 21 from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.
This closure is necessary to carry out repairs on the federal section of the bridge's roadway. It is important to note that the bridge's two Montreal-bound lanes will remain open during this period.
Depending on the weather, road crews might be able to leave one lane open in each direction during the repairs. If mild weather conditions are expected, a contraflow lane will be used. Because this configuration takes longer to set up but has less of an overall impact on traffic, it will be closed from 4 a.m. on Saturday December 21 to 12 p.m. (noon) on Sunday December 22.
The option chosen (closing one direction or only closing one lane per direction) will be confirmed on Thursday December 19 depending on the weather forecast.
The section of the slab targeted in this repair work will eventually be completely replaced as part of the bridge's roadway rehabilitation program. In the meantime, it is important that maintenance work be carried out on a regular basis, especially as winter starts to avoid operations taking place during that time of year.
During this major closure, road users are encouraged to use the Champlain, Victoria or Jacques Cartier Bridges, or the new section of Autoroute 30.
Please note this closure may be rescheduled according to weather conditions.
