Honoré Mercier Bridge - Many night and weekend closures to be expected from
October 4th to 25th
LONGUEUIL, QC, Sept. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) and the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) wish to announce the beginning of many lane closures on the Honoré Mercier Bridge, on weeknights and during the day on the weekends from October 4th to 25th.
First, on weeknights, one southbound lane out of two will be closed everyday from Monday to Friday, 10 PM to 10 AM in the morning, according to the following schedule:
- At night only, Monday, October 4 to Friday, October 8
- At night only, Monday, October 11 to Friday, October 15
- At night only, Monday, October 17 to Friday, October 22
On weekends, the entire upstream part of the bridge will be closed to traffic, with one lane open in each direction (one Montreal-bound lane, and one South Shore-bound lane) for the entire weekend, from Friday at 11 PM to Monday at 5 AM. This major work will occur over three weekends, according to the following schedule:
- During the day and at night, Friday, October 8 to Monday, October 11
- During the day and at night, Friday, October 15 to Monday, October 17
- During the day and at night, Friday, October 22 to Monday, October 25
Remember that traffic will be very heavy on the Mercier Bridge during construction. Motorists who take this route are invited to avoid this sector, when possible. The Champlain, Victoria, and Jacques Cartier Bridges are the alternatives that can be used over the weekend. However, note that one last operation is planned for the L'Île-des-Sœurs Bridge on Friday, October 8, midnight to Sunday, October 10, at noon. After this last major planned work on the Champlain Bridge this year, it will become a good alternative to use to avoid the Mercier Bridge.
Please also note that the width of lanes will be reduced during the work to 3.3 metres. Trucks exceeding this width will be invited to take an optional route.
These closures allow for important repairs to be made on the metal structure of the Mercier Bridge, each day. Over the weekends, cars will be permitted to travel on the downstream part of the Bridge, with one lane open in each direction, in order to enable the completion of major necessary work without adding any weight to the upstream part of the bridge.
