Honoré Mercier Bridge - Repairs to begin on Ramp 2 (La Prairie ramp) on
Monday, September 13th
LONGUEUIL, QC, Sept. 10 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) and the ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) wish to announce that roadwork will begin on the La Prairie ramp (Ramp 2) of the Honoré Mercier Bridge on September 13th. The first part of the work will be undertaken this fall to then begin again in spring 2011. Please note that the work will continue as long as weather permits.
Preparatory night work: complete closure of Ramp 2
In order to begin the roadwork on Ramp 2, preparatory work will require complete closure of Ramp 2 at night, on the following schedule:
Monday, September 13
- 10 PM to 5 AM complete closure towards La Prairie
- 8 PM to 5 AM complete closure towards Montreal
Tuesday, September 14
- 10 PM to 5 AM complete closure towards La Prairie
- 8 PM to 5 AM complete closure towards Montreal
Wednesday, September 15
- 8 PM to 5 AM complete closure towards La Prairie
During the night work, motorists are encouraged to take a temporary detour route that will take them to Highway 207 and then to Highway 138 in order to access the bridge from the Chateauguay access ramp (please consult our maps indicating the detour route - Montreal bound: http://bit.ly/97f0fN / La Prairie bound: http://bit.ly/aKa5B4).
Partial closure of Ramp 2 (day and night) throughout the fall
During the entire repair period to Ramp 2 between September 13th and throughout the fall, one lane will be open at all times in each direction, to access the Honoré Mercier Bridge from Highway 132 or to travel towards La Prairie from the bridge exit.
Please also note that the lanes on Ramp 2 will be reduced in width during the roadwork. Beginning Tuesday, September 14th at 5 AM the upstream lane will be reduced to 3.3 metres and over the course of the week the downstream lane will also be reduced to the same width for the duration of the work. Trucks that exceed that size are invited to use the detour route accessible via the intersection of Highways 207 and 138.
This closure will allow for the complete replacement of the access ramp deck with prefabricated concrete deck panels, in two phases. Please note that this access ramp is the last ramp to be repaired as part of this contract, the first of two major construction contracts that make up the largest bridge rehabilitation project ever undertaken in Canada.
