TORONTO, June 21, 2014 /CNW/ - On the occasion of National Aboriginal Day on June 21, the Canadian Race Relations Foundation urges all Canadians to learn more about all Canadian Aboriginal Peoples, their cultures and their invaluable and historic contributions to the country.
Rubin Friedman, CRRF spokesperson, noted:
"National Aboriginal Day gives Canadians the chance to learn more about and take part in the Aboriginal heritage in Canada. Our research on attitudes shows that all of us, particularly the young, have a need to become familiar with the many positive aspects and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis to Canada.
"It is also vital that we all be aware of how the military and political support of Aboriginal Peoples was vital to the establishment of Canada as an independent country, a role we should ensure all Canadians learn about", he continued.
"These separate nations and peoples have been crucial to the settlement and development of this great country and will continue to be so in the future", said CRRF Chairperson, Albert Lo.
"This day can serve as a positive re-introduction to that history and those cultures and we encourage all to participate in their local Aboriginal Day activities."
