Horwath Hypocrisy Exposed: NDP Accepts Donations from Energy Utilities
QUEEN'S PARK, Nov. 1 /CNW/ - The NDP's hypocrisy was on display again today, this time over Leader Andrea Horwath accepting donations from public and private energy utilities.
Horwath started by throwing mud in Question Period today, but it wound up sticking to her.
First the NDP said accepting political donations from energy utilities was "wrong".
But then Horwath was exposed for accepting $1,000 from Union Gas for her own leadership campaign. What's more, the NDP have a history of accepting thousands of dollars from Enwave Energy and Suncor Energy.
Then the NDP argued that it was okay to accept donations from private utilities, just not public ones - despite the fact they all make their money from the same source: consumers.
Again the NDP fumbled. Horwath failed to disclose that they accepted donations from a public utility - Five Nations Energy Inc. - which donated over $1,200 to NDP campaigns. Five Nations Energy Inc. is a non-profit utility owned by Attawapiskat, Fort Albany and Kashechewan First Nations.
Because of rule changes enacted by the McGuinty Liberals, political donations are disclosed publicly in real time by Elections Ontario.
Horwath should have checked her own record before getting down in the mud.
