Horwath vows to keep leading change as convention closes
HAMILTON, ON, April 15, 2012 /CNW/ - New Democrats are feeling stronger than ever after a successful weekend convention in Steeltown says New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath.
"The people of Ontario are tired of the same old politics and this weekend they saw New Democrats leading real change that will put them first," said Horwath.
The energetic convention drew a record 1066 voting delegates, 122 more than the 2009 Leadership Convention.
Horwath stood shoulder to shoulder on stage with Federal NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair. Mulcair capped off the day with a speech to enthusiastic supporters. He praised the dedication of Ontario New Demcrats and promised good things to come when New Democrats in every province work together.
"Jack Layton started something special. Now Tom Mulcair will get the job done. Ontario New Democrats are with him all the way" said Horwath.
Horwath and her Caucus members return to Queen's Park tomorrow with a confidence boost from party membership.
"New Democrats have spoken loud and clear. We have our marching orders to make minority parliament work and to make the budget fairer for people across this province" Horwath said.
