Earlier start time on Sunday for 21.1km distance, 42.2km distance will not take place as planned
MONTREAL, Sept. 20, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - After consultation with medical officials and city partners, the Rock 'n' Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon & 1/2 Marathon organizers have made the difficult decision to cancel the 42.2km distance the due to the adverse conditions. The unseasonably hot and humid weather forecasted for Sunday led the event's organizers to make changes to the event schedule with the full support and understanding of their partners.
The 21.1km and 10km will still take place on Sunday morning, with the 21.1k starting one hour earlier at 7:30 am (previously scheduled for 8:30am). Saturday's 5k and P'tit Marathon will take place as planned.
"Our number one priority this race weekend is the safety of all participants. While we are deeply disappointed to have to cancel the 42.2 km distance, we do so knowing it is in the best interests of participant safety," declared Louis Malafarina, Executive Director of the Rock 'n' Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon & 1/2 Marathon. "We know nothing can replace crossing the finish line of a marathon, and we sympathize with our runners who worked so hard to prepare for race day."
Marathon (42.2k) runners will have the option of running the 21.1km, transferring to another open Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series event or receiving a registration refund. Runners will receive updated information via email, social media and the Rock 'n' Roll website.
All runners are reminded to have their health and safety in mind as they prepare for race weekend.
