TORONTO, Aug. 4, 2014 /CNW/ - To commemorate the centenary of the start of World War One (WWI), VISITFLANDERS, the official tourism agency for Flanders (the northern region of Belgium) and Brussels published and distributed the historically-inspired Flanders Fields Post throughout downtown Toronto.
Starting at Toronto's Old City Hall, period-dressed paperboys provided passersby with the one-time print newspaper that included articles about the historic battle fought in the region, as well as a snapshot of today's culturally diverse Flanders.
Similar commemorations were held in Manchester, U.K. and Dublin, Ireland.
From 2014 to 2018, VISITFLANDERS will bring together the past and present through a variety of commemorative initiatives.
