Hotwire Reveals Canadian Hotel Rate Report for October 2012
Popular British Columbia Cities Dominate the List, while Charlottetown Continues to Hold as a Value Destination
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 25, 2012 /CNW/ - Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today announced the results of the October 2012 Hotwire® Canadian Hotel Rate Report, which features the top five cities in Canada where hotel rates have dropped the most. When combined with Hotwire's already discounted prices, the Hotel Rate Report helps guide customers to the destinations that can maximize their travel dollars.
The small city of Moncton tops the list for the first time since July 2010 with an 11 percent drop in hotel prices. Visitors to Moncton can have quite a diverse set of experiences, from getting tickets to the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada, to experiencing the amazing natural phenomena of the Tidal Bore, where waves seem to roll upstream, to visiting Magnetic Hill, where cars seem to roll uphill. Besides checking out those attractions, wine lovers and foodies should consider taking advantage of the great hotel prices to attend the upcoming 21st annual World Wine & Expo which takes place the first week of November.
Charlottetown, Whistler and Vancouver all return to the list yet again. Charlottetown, in its fourth straight appearance, moves up one spot to take second place with an eight percent drop. Whistler, with three straight months on the list, drops a couple spots with a 4% reduction in rates, tying Vancouver, in its fourth straight month, and Victoria, absent from the list since June, for third place. Whistler, Victoria and Vancouver are all excellent options for visitors looking to see some stunning fall foliage.
The temperate rainforest in Victoria's Goldstream Park, where you can also get a front row seat to the annual salmon run this time of year, is a particularly good example to see the leaves change colour. However, visitors should act fast if they want to score a good deal as prices in the area are expected to rise once snow begins to fall. Lastly, tourists can take a Beaver or an Otter –two styles of Vancouver's famous floatplanes – to get a bird's eye view of the fall colours near a city where a slow convention season is continuing to drive down hotel prices.
Hotwire is able to find great deals because it works with hotels, airlines and car rental companies to fill unsold inventory. This means customers can find incredibly low deals on Hotwire, especially in cities like those on the Hotel Rate Report where prices are unseasonably low.
When compared to the same time last year, the top five hotel price reductions for August 2012 include:

"Three out of our five destinations on this month's list come from British Columbia and two of those – Vancouver and Whistler – have held strong as value destinations since early summer. This is mainly due to the combination of slower-than-expected leisure and business traffic and high gas prices curbing demand from outlaying cities," said Pierre-Etienne Chartier, vice president of the Hotwire Group. "The good news is that hoteliers are turning to Hotwire to fill their rooms at a discount, and travellers looking to take a trip this autumn can get great rates in some beautiful fall cities."
About the Hotwire Hotel Rate Report
The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report will run results during the first week of each month. Results are calculated by looking at Hotwire stay dates for select regions in the current month, and comparing prices in the current month against Hotwire prices in the same month in the prior year. Prices are compared within the same star rating categories for consistency, and the percent change in price for each region is generated as an overall average of the changes in those categories. The prices in the chart above are examples for a particular star rating category within that market, and actual prices may be higher or lower than the example that is provided.
