Hotwire Reveals Top 10 Thanksgiving Getaways for Canadians

Annual List Points to Trend of Travellers Heading to Major U.S. Cities to Celebrate Holiday,

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today announced its annual list of the top 10 most popular travel destinations for Canadians over the Thanksgiving weekend. While larger local cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal continue to be top-of-mind for travellers, with average nightly hotel prices hovering around $100, U.S. cities close to the border including New York, Chicago and Minneapolis also hold dominant spots on the list.

Compared to last year's list, New York maintains its position as the number one most popular destination, while Chicago (last year's number eight) and Minneapolis (last year's number six) boost their way up to second and third, respectively. The Canadian cities of Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal all fall in popularity this year to fourth, fifth and ninth, while Boston rises up one spot to sixth and San Francisco makes its debut at number seven. Rounding out the list are Las Vegas and London. The jump in rank of U.S. cities seems to indicate that many are using the holiday weekend to tack on a small leisure trip before the end of year.
