How corporate Canada can embrace the green economy
Event hosted by ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) will bring together senior finance professionals and corporate sustainability leaders to discuss how Canadian companies can transition more efficiently to the green economy
TORONTO, Sept. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - For corporate Canada, the transition to "green" is no longer an option - it's a priority.
The current state of the traditional economy has led to an unsustainable use of resources, income inequalities, environmental degradation, and a greater level of risk.
On October 16 in Calgary, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) will bring together senior finance professionals and corporate sustainability leaders for a half-day event entitled 'Is corporate Canada ready for the green economy?', which will examine how Canadian companies can transition more efficiently to the green economy.
"We'll be encouraging big ideas, open dialogue and wide-ranging debate," said Suzanne K. Godbehere, Head of ACCA Canada. "But we'll also be emphasizing practical solutions from leading Canadian companies on how to implement environmental best practices to fully leverage the many benefits of the green economy. Of course, they really have no choice, because the status quo is unsustainable."
The event, the third in a series of ACCA-sponsored green economy events (2012 events took place in Toronto and Vancouver), will feature outstanding panellists. They include:
- Andrea Goertz, Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer, Telus
- Gordon Lambert, Executive Advisor Sustainability and Innovation, Suncor Energy
- Bob Mann, Chief Operating Officer, Sustainalytics
- Nelson Switzer, Director and Leader, Sustainable Business Solutions, PricewaterhouseCoopers
The panel will be moderated by Matt Loose, Director, Corporate Sustainability Practice, Stratos.
Following the panellist presentations and a question-and-answer session, audience delegates will engage in moderated discussions on the five "pillars" of the green economy, featured in ACCA's 'Canada and the green economy' report.
