H&R Block Tax Academy Now Open for Registration

H&R Block offers one of Canada's most comprehensive tax training programs

CALGARY, Sept. 14, 2016 /CNW/ - H&R Block, a leader in tax preparation in Canada, has introduced the expanded H&R Block Tax Academy – a rigorous and comprehensive training program for tax experts.

More than half (53.4%) of the tax experts at H&R Block Canada have worked at the company for over 5 years and they all began by completing the Tax Academy's Income Tax Level 1 course. Throughout their careers, they continue to develop specialized expertise through upper-level courses. "At H&R Block, we have some of the best trained tax experts in Canada and that begins with our solid training program," said Rick Brown, President of H&R Block Canada. "We have over 25 experts working full time in our training department, developing and updating industry-leading curriculums."

How it Works
Applicants interested in qualifying to work as a tax expert at H&R Block begin by completing the Income Tax Level 1 course. This is a 72-hour course (78 hours in Quebec to accommodate additional training on provincial taxes), teaching the skills to prepare tax returns and up-to-date tax laws and tax filing practices.

Students must score at least 80% in the Level 1 course to be considered for employment as an H&R Block tax expert. Those that do could have the opportunity to interview for a position at a local H&R Block office. H&R Block hires only the best applicants – of the 7,000 students who completed the Level 1 course last year, about one third were offered positions.

Thousands of H&R Block tax experts and other experienced tax professionals come back to the Tax Academy each year to advance their careers and deepen their expertise in specialized areas like corporate taxes or United States taxes. Upper-level courses are led by senior tax experts, who cover a variety of topics.
